Above the Mandrake
Above The Mandrake is the 27-year creative collaboration between musical artist Sally Jamila, and theatre director and performance artist, Robert Mignault.
Sally Jamila is a vocalist, composer, arranger and producer living in West Auckland. Her improvised and instrumental harmonic style reflects her journey through jazz and world-music. Born in New Zealand, Sally’s Cook Island-Tahitian roots have woven together with Croatia, and blended with her Indian heritage providing a rich fabric of influences. Sally’s extensive background through teaching music education, Playcentre and alternative education at primary school level, has developed a unique style of inclusivity that delves into the creative joy Play and Participation. She works in live performance, studio production and for the theatre and other multi-media projects.
Robert Mignault is a New Zealand-based director, educator, MC and performance artist whose training and career spans over 35 years and many countries, including Canada, USA and New Zealand. In-between film, television, events and voice-over work, Robert regularly trains professionals and youth on improvisation, collaboration and creative innovation. He is a highly experienced group facilitator and corporate presenter, comfortable in any professional setting. He has developed and cultivated a network of other talented interdisciplinary performers and has the capacity to scale-up to implement other working professionals into creative concepts and execution as needed. He has a life-long interest in the power of imagination and mystery in art and theatre.
